Ephesians 2:1–8

1.And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 5. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 6. That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 7. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 8. Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Life often brings us to a place where we look back and wonder how we made it through certain situations. The truth is, it was not by our power, not by our wisdom, and not by our strength, but by the mercy and grace of God. In Ephesians 2, Paul taught that our lives are living proof of the grace of God.

First, the text revealed that grace found us. The scripture says we were dead in trespasses and sins and walked according to the course of this world. But God, who is rich in mercy and full of love, did not leave us in that condition. Even when we were dead in sin, He made us alive, raised us up, and gave us a new life. This teaches us that when we could not get to God, grace came and found us.

Next, the text revealed that grace saved usThe Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” This reminds us that we are not saved because we are good, but because God is gracious. It was not our works, not our power, and not our goodness, but it was the grace of God that saved us.

Further, the text revealed that our lives are proof of His graceVerse 7 teaches us that God saved us so that in the ages to come, He might show the exceeding riches of His grace. This means that when people look at our lives, they should see proof of God’s mercy, proof of God’s grace, and proof of God’s love.

So until next time my brothers and sisters, remember: Grace found us, grace saved us, and our lives are proof.

The Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your love. We thank You for bringing us from where we were to where we are now. Help us to live in a way that our lives will be a testimony and proof of Your grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
