James 5:7-10
7.Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. 8.Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 9.Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 10.Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
James, the writer of our devotional text wrote to Jewish Christians scattered and living in gentile regions of Palestine. In this portion or the epistle, he encouraged them not only to continue their belief, but to be particular in the beliefs.
First, he shared with them in verses 7-8 to be patient believers. We must understand that patience is not merely a virtue, but a biblical command. Secondly, in verse 9, the writer encouraged the scattered Jewish Christians to be persistent believers. Persistence can’t be reduced to an action of the head and hand, it must be a matter of the heart. Further, James shared in verse 10 that in spite of persecution, they should be peaceful believers. Let us remember regardless to the circumstances we face, we must remain unified as makers and keepers of peace. Until the next time my Christian friends, may the God of our hope remain merciful toward us.
The Prayer:
Father, thank you for your word and the wisdom therein. It is in the name of Jesus the Christ we offer thanks. Amen.
