Colossians 1:12-14

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.

While listening to conversations, across the last several months, I noticed a consistent theme. The theme across cultures, races, and political affiliates was complaints against our current conditions. It almost seems as if we have nothing for which to be thankful. However, the writer of our text suggested then, and it’s applicable to us today, as Christians we have reasons to be thankful.

First, He suggested that we should be thankful because We are Rewarded “partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light”. This is a beautiful picture of the advantages given those who are in Christ. Remember, before the inheritance, we were dead in sin and trespasses. Secondly, Paul suggested we should be thankful because We Are Rescued “delivered us from the  power of darkness”. This rescue is worthy of thanks to God for multiple reasons, one awesome example is our rescue is not merely from the danger which is darkness but the power (authority) of that danger. This is significant because regarding enemies, if you control enemy power you also control the progress of the same. Given that, the apostle Paul suggested we should be thankful because We are Redeemed “In whom we  have redemption”. Even in times of pain, persecution, and/or pandemic our redemption is reason to be thankful. Regardless of the discomfort, displacement, and/or devastation that accompanies our current conditions, we have reasons to rejoice.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, let us ascribe thanksgiving to our God for the works of His hands and heart are Glorious. Until the next time my friends, may the peace of God reign throughout our lives.

The Prayer:

Father, have mercy upon us all. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen
